Quinton Bemiller is an artist whose experimental practice focuses on the materiality of paint, color sensation, and idiosyncratic actions. Referencing emotions, ideas and states of being, he utilizes elements of chance and choice to create moments of tension, surprise, and resolution. His personalized visual language of organic forms and nuanced colors are layered over stained raw canvas, developing spatial dimensions reminiscent of landscape. The physical act of painting is how he processes human experience, grounds himself, and cultivates presence in a highly virtual, disembodied world. Artist's Statement
Quinton Bemiller (b. 1976, Arcadia, CA) is a fifth-generation Californian, currently living and working in Riverside, CA. He received his M.F.A. from Claremont Graduate University, Claremont, CA and has presented solo shows at LAUNCH LA, Offramp Gallery, Torrance Art Museum, Armory Center for the Arts, Palos Verdes Art Center, and Gallery 825. He has participated in group exhibitions at Sasse Museum of Art, Mural Conservancy of Los Angeles, Claremont Graduate University, Lesley University, Cambridge, MA, University of California, Riverside, Golden West College, Huntington Beach, CA, Kellogg Gallery at California Polytechnic University, Pomona, Merry Karnowsky Projects, Shoshana Wayne Gallery, and Boston University.
